I made it back to my parents’ house, the house I grew up in.

Ojos Azules

I love this song. It’s an Andean folk song that I learned in Colombia.

Here are the Lyrics:

Ojos azules no llores
No llores ni te enamores (x2)
Lloraras cuando me vaya
Cuando remedio ya no haya (x2)

Tu me juraste quererme
Quererme toda la vida (x2)
No han pasado dos, tres dias
Tu te alejas y me dejas (x2)

En una copa de vino
Quisiera tomar veneno (x2)
Veneno para matarme
Veneno para olvidarte (x2)

Ojos azules no llores
Ojos azules no llores
Ojos azules no llores

I made it back to the USA, to Jacksonville to be with my friends. I only had layovers in Lima, San Jose, Costa Rica and Miami.

It’s nice to be back home. I’ve already fumbled and spoken to strangers in Spanish. But I think that means I did something well. It’s good to be home but I miss Colombia.

I’m coming back to the states in a week. I’m excited. I’m scared. I’m confused. I’m overwhelmed. I’m gonna leave Colombia, a place I have come to love for it’s people and it’s magic. I’m gonna leave South America, a land of incredible true beauty and culture. I’m gonna see my best girlfriends and beach it. I’m gonna see my family. I’m gonna eat sweet corn in MN. I’m gonna to speak Spanish to people by mistake. I’m exited. I’m scared. I’m confused. I’m overwhelmed. I’m ready.

Painting Rocks in Colombia

As a child, I always loved to paint rocks with my mother. Hers were always prettier than mine but I still loved to paint the rocks.

A few days ago I decided to continue the April Johnson tradition and paint with the Criollo kids. We gathered rocks in the near by river, let them dry and went a painting! We had such fun that we have plans to paint again this week as well.

We Made a Garden

One morning on the farm Giovani and I made a garden together. He really likes the flowers. I do too. Here are the before and after pics.

Casa de Mery

Mery’s house is the oldest house in San Augustín. Her house is incredibly beautiful. It’s like a dream but a dream with a small cockroach problem. Really, to me it is the house of 100 Years of Solitude. I read that book on my trip and fell in love with the casa Buendia and found it here in San Augustín.

Mery was raised in Duluth Minnesota and is from Ecuador. She is such a wonderful, strong, outspoken woman. When I first met her in her home I was convinced she was Ursula from the book, somehow she just embodies that wonderful character, especially in this house.

Amy is my friend I met through Christian. We went on a trip to Mocoa together. She is super great. She is an Oregonian who currently lives in Europe and has lived in many places. She is wise and beautiful, sensitive and logical. I hope to see her again sometime in the states.
